The Dreded 'Notaku' !!!

Hey everyone out their in blogger land! Nick D here, and in case you DON`T know..., I’m the assistant producer here on the show.

In my spare time I enjoy ... you guessed it ANIME & MANGA!!! I love it!!! LOVE IT!

But not everyone shares my love anime and manga, OH NO! In fact, some people, or ‘Notakus’ as I call them, have no clue what it’s about!!!

Here’s a sample of one such experience I had while at work on my lunch break.

I’m sitting in the office eating my lunch and reading a manga I had just bought. My co-worker notices the manga, and here’s where the Spanish inquisition starts.

"What are you reading?"
"It’s a manga. I just bought it today."
"So what is it? Like PORN or somethin'?"
"No it’s not ... it’s just a normal manga, not porn."
"C’mon don’t lie to me, it’s PORN!"
"Goddamnit, it’s not PORN!!!!"
"OK let me see it" *I hand them the manga and they flip through it till they come to a page* "AH HA you see! Right here it`s PORN, that chic’s NAKED! You can see her boobs and everything!"
"The character is in the shower, she’s supposed to be naked."
"When does the dude come in and start banging her?"
"What part of 'this is not porn' was unclear to you? There’s not gonna be any DUDE ok so just drop it!"
*My co-worker ponders for a moment then states* "You know I just don’t get it. Like what’s wrong with normal HUMAN porn"

Now by this point I’m just fed up and any hope I had of having a nice relaxing lunch just went out the window.

This happens more often than not, so to end off my little rant here are some helpful tips to get those pesky Notaku's off your back.

1. State a fact about NON Pornographic anime and/or manga. For example 'Did you know that 51% of Japans national export is Anime?' I’m pretty sure this is true ... but THAT DOESN`T MATTER! The Notaku will be so confused he won’t know if your lying or not, because let’s face it ... they don’t know anything about anime or manga!

2. Act insulted that they don’t know what the deal is. This usually works if you have a friend with you, people submit to peer pressure!

3. Admit its PORN! They’ll leave you alone if you make them think they’re right!

AND FINALLY…

4. Stare directly at the person not saying a word, just stare and stare AND STARE!!!! Eventually they will leave and you can go back to enjoying your manga !
